It’s a long-promised boost for our home and native land.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has unveiled a $252 million dollar scheme – to strengthen the restoration and conservation of ecologically sensitive lands and waters throughout the country.
It’s called “The National Conservation Plan.”
The government’s commitment was announced in the 2013 Speech From the Throne and will see money invested over five years to buy land, expand preservation of coastal and marine territory and support conservation volunteers.
The Prime Minister’s office says under this plan, progress will be measured against a list of desired outcomes for conservation and restoration of land and shorelines – and how many opportunities are created for Canadians to get easy access to natural areas.
The Tories first promised a national conservation plan during the 2011 federal election campaign.
