The 67th Cannes Film Festival opens with a controversial gala presentation, and features three Canadian movies in competition.
Grace of Monaco will open the festival this evening. The film biography of Grace Kelly stars Nicole Kidman. It has been criticized by Princess Grace’s family as an inaccurate portrayal. And director Olivier Dahan has feuded over the final cut of the film with the Weinstein Company, which is distributing it in North America.
Dahan’s version will screen at Cannes.
Eighteen films are in competition for the coveted Palme D’Or. Three are Canadian: David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars, Atom Egoyan’s The Captives and Xavier Dolan’s Mommy.
