The heat was on again today as MP’s returned to the Commons after a two week break.

Question period saw heated exchanges over changes to the Harper government’s controversial elections overhaul.

Tom Mulcair – the NDP leader – says the announcement of some major amendments is just not good enough and he slammed the democratic reform minister for failing to completely fix the bill.

A commons committee dominated by Tories wrapped up testimony from witnesses today and will take the next three days to delve into the amendments.

The changes include a move to put a stricter term limit on the chief electoral officer.

The Conservatives say almost 300 amendments to Bill C-23 have been submitted – comprising hundreds of pages to be voted on in committee – by the end of business on Thursday.

The opposition NDP calls the short time-line “a farce.”
