The provincial Liberals present their budget this week.
Word is they’ll announce a new Ontario Pension Plan.
According to sources, it’ll expand on the foundation of the Canada Pension Plan, meaning among other things, a fully funded scheme supported by workers for their own retirement – not one where retirees take money from the young.
Apparently, low-income workers would pay proportionately lower benefits or be exempted altogether.
Ottawa’s repeatedly said no to a plea from provinces like Ontario and groups like CARP – a new vision of aging – to update the CPP.
