”This is one of the worst days in Toronto history”.

Mayor Rob Ford’s reaction to the departure of Gene Jones as CEO of Toronto Community Housing Corporation.

The chair of the board says the directors and Jones mutually agreed it was time for a change.

Ford says when he gets re-elected this October, not if, that he plans to do everything in his power to bring Jones back.

The mayor says TCHC has been much better with Jones in charge.

Jones was at the centre of a scathing report earlier this week from the city ombudsman who said Jones and other senior T-C-H-C executives flouted hiring rules, fired staff recklessly, ignored conflicts of interest and gave managers sudden and unjustified raises.
