More turmoil at the San Diego Opera.
Karen Cohn, the president of the board, has led a contingent of 13 board members – who have resigned en masse.
The acting president is now Carol Lazier, a board member who donated $1 million – dedicated to finding ways to keep the company viable.
The board has already voted to delay the closing of the opera, until May 19th – so a committee will have time to explore opportunities to continue the opera’s mission.
The board has faced resistance from performers and community members – who have pressed the company to stay in operation and find new ways to make up it’s budget shortfall.
