Ottawa denies it, but, a Toronto city councillor worries the Harper government could sell off all or part of Downsview Park to developers.
Maria Augimeri says she’s obtained a leaked memo suggesting such a possibility.
She claims Canada Lands Company, which has held stewardship of Downsview since November 2012, has asked the city to revisit the park’s official plan reached two years ago to build 10-thousand residential units there.
The councillor worries this may lead to even more development, which would threaten keeping most of Downsview a park.
Augimeri thinks Ottawa should give control of the park to the city.
The government’s released a statement saying it has no plans to sell the land.
The future of Downsview Park will be discussed at a public meeting Wednesday starting at 6:30pm at the Warehouse Event Venue.
