A new British survey finds that women read books; men prefer to wait for the movie to come out.
Researchers report that 75% of the men they surveyed said they would rather watch a movie version rather than read the book. Thirty per cent said they hadn’t picked up a book since they were in school.
Almost two-thirds say they don’t read as much as they probably should. And about 20% admit they had pretended to read a specific book in order to appear more intelligent.
But many said they preferred to spend their spare time watching TV or surfing the web.
The survey was conducted in advance of World Book Night. Next Wednesday, volunteers will give out hundreds of thousands of free books to “reluctant readers” in their communities.
