MORE TIME TO PAY YOUR TAXES

Canada Revenue is back online, and it’s giving Canadians a little more time to file their income tax returns.

CRA and some other government departments shut down their websites late last week over concerns about the so-called Heartbleed bug.

It attacks software commonly used on the Internet to provide security and privacy by taking advantage of a flaw in the security software. Developers have issued a patch to repair the breach.

CRA says it shut down its online tax service as a precaution, and the site is safe. But it is extending this year’s tax deadline beyond the traditional April 30th. Taxpayers now have until May 5th to file.
