Seniors in Nova Scotia are getting some additional protection from their government. Nova Scotia has introduced legislation it says will help protect seniors from misleading or aggressive tactics by door-to-door-salespeople and companies. Amendments to the Direct Sellers Regulation Act will see fines boosted from a previous minimum of $100 to $500 dollars. The maximum fine will be increased from $1,000 to $25,000 and the fine for corporations will be set at $300,000. The changes will also limit continuous service contracts to two years and those contracts can be cancelled by consumers at any time. There is no word on whether the Ontario Government will follow suit.
