Members of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons are joining a growing chorus of voices opposed to Bill C-23, the Harper Government’s so-called “Fair Elections Act.” Susan Eng, Vice-President of Advocacy for CARP, a New Vision of Aging, says the majority of it’s members reject the act in its current form. Eng says 80 per cent of CARP members polled opposed both the act and its provisions. CARP made it’s position know Monday night in Ottawa during an appearance before the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs which is studying Bill C-23. Political analysts, experts, and commentators have spoken out strongly against the legislation, saying it will actually diminish democracy.
