Federal investigators are looking into a complaint that McDonald’s is hiring foreign employees at the expense of Canadian applicants. The investigation under the Temporary Workers Programme comes after a complaint by McDonald’s Team Leader, Kalen Christ, who works at a location in Victoria, British Columbia. Christ has worked at the Victoria location for four years and says many people have been complaining about the practice. The federal government says it wants to hear from any other employee or job applicant from any McDonalds or other workplace nationwide who feels negatively affected by the temporary worker programme. Federal rules say employers can’t hire even one temporary foreign employee, if there is a qualified Canadian available for the job.
