ELECTION DAY TOO CLOSE TO CALL IN QUEBEC

The pollsters say it’s too close to predict.

The people of Quebec go to the polls today to elect a provincial government. And the winner is anybody’s guess.

When Premier Pauline Marois called the election, the polls indicated her Parti Quebecois was on the way to securing a majority. But the party suffered a collapse, driven by fears that it might be planning another sovereignty referendum.

The PQ is now trailing the Liberals. The third party — the CAQ — has been drawing more support recently, enough that it could create upsets in several ridings and end up preventing either the Liberals or the PQ from securing a majority.
