We here at ZoomerMedia would like to extend our condolences to award winning author Lawrence Hill and acclaimed singer songwriter Dan Hill of Toronto. The sister of the famous brothers, Karen Hill, died recently at the age of 56 after a 30 year struggle with mental illness.
Lawrence Hill writes in the Toronto Star today that his sister was a good mother and she was an author like him, although most of her written works remain unpublished. He says bipolar disorder runs on both sides of the Hill family and Karen received the unlucky card among the three siblings. In the weeks before her death, Lawrence Hill says his sister had been trying to publish an autobiographical essay called On Being Crazy about living for decades with mental illness. He says Karen was doing better when on March 22nd she went out to a restaurant to celebrate her return to health but choked during the meal and lost consciousness. She spent the next five days in a coma at St. Michael’s hospital where she died. Lawrence Hill says his sister has left his family, but her stories have not.
