A new study concludes that running can provide numerous health benefits, including increased memory capacity and a decrease in the risk of developing dementia. Researchers found that people who run and do other cardio activities beginning as young adults, can help preserve thinking skills by the time they reach middle age. Study author, David R. Jacobs Jr., with the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, says these finding should be a reminder of the brain health benefits of cardio fitness activities, such as running, swimming, biking or cardio fitness classes. The study is published in Neurology.
