Thomas King of Guelph has won the $25,000 RBC Taylor Prize for non-fiction.

King’s novel “The Inconvenient Indian” also recently won the $40,000 British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction.

King was born in the U.S. and is of Greek and Cherokee descent.

He’s a novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter and photographer – and currently teaches English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph.

His competition for the Taylor Prize included Charlotte Gray, J.B. MacKinnon, Graeme Smith and David Stouck.

The newly rebranded award was formerly known as the Charles Taylor Prize.
