Premier Kathleen Wynne has called a news conference for this morning around 10:00 to announce long-promised improvements to transparency and accountability.

The sweeping changes would require both opposition leaders and their MPPs to post expenses online. Currently, that requirement applies only to the cabinet and senior bureaucrats.

Conservative leader Tim Hudak and NDP leader Andrea Horwath have volunteered to make their expenses available. But Hudak’s most recent post is nine months old. As of yesterday, Horwath’s were almost three years old, but have since been updated.

Their offices say more recent bills haven’t been released by the integrity commissioner.

Wynne’s “Accountability Act” would also establish a Patient Ombudsman, and expand the powers of the Child and Youth Advocate. It would post the attendance and voting record of all MPPs.

The legislation is expected to be introduced in the legislature later this month.
