Britain’s National Theatre has set a new record for live-streaming one of its productions to movie theatres.
The company’s performance of War Horse was watched by 125,000 people in the UK last night. That easily beat the previous record audience of 80,000 who watched Helen Mirren in The Audience.
Another 30,000 people outside the UK saw the performance of the hit play.
The National Theatre has been at the forefront of the movement to broadcast live performances in movie theatres. Since it began its National Theatre Live program, more than two million people have seen one of its 30 broadcasts.
