The animosity between Toronto’s Mayor and Chief of Police was ratcheted up a few levels yesterday.
The Ford brothers responded angrily to comments by Chief Bill Blair that he was disgusted with Rob Ford’s obscenity-laced drunken attack on him that was captured on video earlier this year.
Mayor Rob Ford dared the Chief to arrest him, and called on him to reveal how much money he spent on the investigation into him. Councillor Doug Ford lodged a second misconduct complaint against the Blair, based on his response to the first complaint he filed this week.
Doug Ford also repeated his accusation that Chief Blair is playing politics. He claims that Blair is close to the John Tory camp, and suggested that Blair is only talking about the video now because Tory has entered the race.
At city hall, many councillors are siding with the Chief of Police in this dispute, saying the Ford blustering is all part of their re-election campaign. Others are frustrated that the sideshow is taking focus away from the work they’re trying to do on behalf of the city.
