For the fourth time in seven months, a child has died in an unlicensed daycare in the Toronto area.
Police confirm a four-month old boy died while in the care of the facility in an apartment building in the Keele-and-Finch area.
The province’s education ministry confirmed the death. It says there had been no complaints about the daycare.
The parents are said to be students from Saudi Arabia.
Because of a shortage of licensed daycares in Ontario, it’s estimated that 80 per cent of children are looked after in unlicensed facilities. The province recently introduced stricter regulations in the wake of the first deaths. Those regulations have not become law yet.
No cause of death has been determined. Police are investigating.
