This morning Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre made medical and social media history by live tweeting heart bypass surgery. Shawn Yu is manager of digital communication at Sunnybrook. He says at 9:30 this morning the heart patient, identified only as Lou, a 57-year-old man with coronary artery disease was prepared for surgery and the doctor made the incision. You says the motivation behind the project was to promot healthy life styles and good heart health. Heart disease and stroke are two of the three leading causes of death in Canada. According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, someone dies of heart disease or stroke every seven minutes in Canada. It appears Lou is recovering well after his surgery.
