It was simply too cold to go house hunting in January.

The latest real estate numbers show sales were down more than three per cent compared to December.

That was the fifth straight month over month decline.

Sales through multiple listings service were down in over 60 per cent of all local markets including Toronto and Vancouver.

But the average national price of a home rose 9.5 per cent the past year to over $388-thousand.
