It took a four hour meeting to come to a decision but this afternoon the Toronto Community Housing Centre board voted to keep Gene Jones on as CEO. Jones has been facing allegations that he tried to keep an employee off the sunshine list and had a hand in another employee’s improper firing. The board ordered a law firm to investigate senior management. The tough-talking CEO was brought in from Detroit two years ago to clean up the embattled Toronto housing authority. Toronto’s social housing agency is the largest in Canada and is struggling to cope with a backlog of repairs. This fall, Jones was forced to back down on plans to spend 2-million dollars to renovate and expand the agency’s Rosedale offices. Five staff were fired over allegations they falsified documents.
