Toronto police need more training in how to calm people in an emotionally disturbed state. That’s one of the recommendations from a jury in a coroner’s inquest into the shooting deaths of three mentally ill Toronto residents who were wielding edged weapons and were shot by police. The jury also suggested police consider increased use of in-car cameras to record confrontations and shields to use to disarm and control people with edged weapons.
