We’ll find out later today how the federal government plans to spend our money over the next year.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will deliver his latest budget at 4:00 this afternoon.

All indications are there won’t be any big spending initiatives, except to try to energize the economy and create jobs.

Flaherty has already said he plans to do that through infrastructure spending. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne says she has some ideas about how that should roll out. She says she would like to see a plan that allows the province, Ottawa, and municipalities to develop infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and transit.

Wynne and provincial finance minister Charles Souza have also been very critical of Ottawa’s $641-million cut in transfer payments to the province. But Flaherty has said that Ontario is receiving less from Ottawa because its economy is improving.

There is also an indication that Ottawa will begin to crack down on multinational corporations that charge more for the same goods in Canada than they do in the US.
