Team Canada won another gold medal at Sochi, Russia this morning.

One of the heroes of the Vancouver Olympics, Charles Hamelin, has beaten Chinese and Russian rivals to capture gold in the 15-hundred metres. That gives him a total of four career Olympic medals from Vancouver and Sochi. He will have three more chances in Sochi to add to his career total.

All three Canadian women in the 500-metre short track race have made it to the next round. Marianne St. Gelais and Valerie Maltais of Quebec were first in their heats. Jessica Hewitt of B-C took second spot in her race.

Both Canadian rinks opened the curling competition in the win column. Jennifer Jones and her Manitoba rink had an easy win over China 9-2. Ontario’s Brad Jacobs and his foursome from Sault Ste. Marie came from behind to pull out an 11-8 win over Germany.

The latest gold medal puts Canada on top of the rankings. Although we have two fewer medals than Norway, Canada has more gold and silver than the other leading countries.
