Canada’s Competition Bureau says four major publishers of electronic books have agreed to changes that will result in lower prices for retail customers.

The agreements follow an 18-month investigation into the ebook industry in Canada.

The agency says the agreement will remove restrictions that prevented ebook retailers from lowering their prices – contrary to Canada’s competition law.

Deals have been signed with Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan and Simon & Schuster.

Meanwhile, the Bureau’s investigation into the electronic book industry continues.
