The Minnesota Orchestra returned to work after a bitter fifteen-month lockout. And they received a nice welcome-back present last night. The orchestra won the Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance for its recording of the Sibelius Symphonies Numbers One and Four. They were led by Maestro Osmo Vanska, who left the orchestra as the lockout dragged on.

The Metropolitan Opera’s recording of Thomas Ade’s The Tempest won Best Opera recording.

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir’s recording of Avo Part’s Adam’s Lament won best Choral performance.

And Maria Schneider’s Winter Morning Walks won awards for Best Contemporary composition, and best vocal solo by Dawn Upshaw.
