Representatives of Syria’s government and the Western-backed opposition were in the same room twice today in Geneva.

They didn’t speak directly, instead making their points through a UN diplomat.

He’s trying to find common ground before the two sides start to address the issues of how to end Syria’s civil war.

The mediator says ”we haven’t achieved much” during the brief encounters.

The talks will continue tomorrow as they attempt to open up access to humanitarian aid – the one thing the two sides could agree to discuss.
