Eight people are now confirmed dead and about another 30 are missing after fire tore through a seniors’ residence in eastern Quebec. The previous number of dead was confirmed at three. The fire destroyed the residence in L’Isle-Verte, about 240 kilometres northeast of Quebec City. None of the victims have been publicly identified. The Queen and Prince Philip have joined others in expressing condolences to the families of the victims. The search in freezing cold temperatures has been called off until tomorrow to give crews a rest. They have been working in rotating shifts because of the frigid temperatures.
