Several Broadway shows have decided not to compete with the Superbowl on February 2nd.

Half of the 28 productions on Broadway have cancelled their performances on that day. Many shows normally have early evening performances on Sundays, but that would conflict with the Superbowl kickoff at 6:30 in nearby New Jersey.

Of the remaining 14 shows, some will start their afternoon performances earlier. A few don’t perform on Sunday. And some will go ahead as scheduled, including The Glass Menagerie and Waiting for Godot.

It’s the first time Broadway shows have altered their schedule to accommodate a sporting event. They say they want to make it easy for Superbowl fans to catch a show, or two, or three while they’re in town.
