After 37-years in business BookCity will close another of it’s locations this Spring.
The Bloor Street West location in the Annex which is distinguished by the store’s iconic yellow awning – was a flagship store for the family-owned mini-chain which opened in 1976.
Book City founder Frans Donker says 14 people will lose their jobs.
Among the reasons given for the closure is the rising cost of the lease – and competition from online retailers.
In 2012, a BookCity location in the High Park neighbourhood was also shut down.
BookCity isn’t the only Toronto book store to be closing soon.
Late last year, The World’s Biggest Bookstore which is just north of the Eaton Centre – announced it would be closing in February.
