Opera Hamilton is falling silent.
The company still owes money from its season-opening production of Verdi’s Falstaff. The musicians haven’t been paid and the bill for the orchestra alone is $20,000.
The payroll is also behind for company staff.
Executive Director Stephen Bye says a large donation has been promised. He’s hoping it will come in this week so that he can pay off the musicians. That would allow them to play at a gala for the company this weekend.
Opera Hamilton is carrying a debt of more than half a million dollars.
