Canada`s biggest airline`s being accused of discriminating against married women, who keep their maiden names.

A Calgary man set off a social media firestorm by taking to Twitter after trying to tranfser an Air Canada travel voucher to his wife, who has a different surname.

Chris Turner, 40, tweeted that those who, in his words, aren`t married to June Cleaver, find the policy deeply insulting.

The airline says customers are free to transfer them to anyone, but that doing it over the phone, like Turner tried, is not possible in every case.

Air Canada says it has to guard against fraud and requires documentation.

The carrier adds it regrets the confusion and that as it shifts to gift cards it`ll make exceptions to the same-name policy as the need arises until vouchers are phased out.”
