The Canadian Press business newsmaker for 2013 is Galen Weston.
The executive chairman of Loblaw Companies wins for his role in one of the biggest takeovers in Canadian retail history and his strong stance on the need for change in Bangladesh – following the Dhaka factory collapse in April.
Weston led Loblaw’s move to acquire Shoppers Drug Mart – in a blockbuster $12.4-billion deal earlier this year.
Weston received about 22 per cent of the votes, followed by BCE chief executive George Cope and former Blackberry CEO Torstein Heins, who got 17 per cent of the votes each.
