We Canadians appear to be in a more generous mood this holiday season.  A new study says 86 percent of Canadians will support some sort of charitable activity with money, goods or volunteering and have increased their average donation to $580, up more than $20 from last year.  The research by BMO Harris Private Banking says more than half of Canadians surveyed said they would donate money, while just under half said they’d be donating canned goods or a food basket.

With this in mind, The New AM 740 and The New Classical 96.3FM are encouraging you to donate to the Holiday Hope Fund in support of the Scott Mission, which was started by Morris and Annie Zeidman in 1941.  The funds go to help men, women and children by providing food, clothing, shelter and children’s toys to those most in need.  The Scott Mission team is led by Peter Duraisami says he loves the phrase Holiday Hope Fund.  “That word hope is so huge.  It’s hard if you’re a single mom or you’re down to the last bit of money and Christmas is right there, and you’ve got kids and you’ve got to get a meal on the table, and we don’t think about that, but that’s not true for many of the people living in the city of Toronto.”
