Toronto City Council Speaker Frances Nunziata was hoping for better behaviour by councillors after her letter calling for more decorum at council meetings.

For awhile, her letter seemed to be paying off. But it appears some councillors didn’t get the memo.

Nunziata tried to eject Giorgio Mammoliti for repeatedly interrupting staff. She said she warned him three times.

Then Mayor Rob Ford called out, “Only the corrupt ones get to stay.” Nunziata demanded an apology from the Mayor. But Ford maintained he didn’t name any names so hadn’t violated any rules.

When he refused to apologize, Nunziata said she had no choice but to adjourn the meeting about 8:00 last night. She says she will demand an apology from Rob Ford and Giorgio Mamolitti when the council reconvenes this morning. That should make for another interesting day at city hall.
