While world leaders are flying to Johannesburg for the funeral of Nelson Mandela, thousands of police officers have made the trip to Toronto to pay tribute to one of their own.
A funeral will be held today for John Zivcic. The Toronto Police Constable died a week ago from injuries suffered in a car crash while he was responding to a report of an impaired driver.
Staff Inspector Bill Needles says the dangers of the job are very much on the minds of police officers at a time like this. He says officers know what happened to Zivcic could happen to any of them.
The funeral for Constable Zivcic will full police honours is being held at the Toronto Congress Centre near Dixon Road and Highway 27 at 11:00 this morning, with a funeral parade beforehand.
Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair will attend, along with Lieutenant-Governor David Onley, Mayor Rob Ford Premier Kathleen Wynne.
