A handwritten manuscript of an American rock anthem has sold for almost $200,000 at auction. The working copy of Bruce Springsteen’s 1975 hit ” Born to Run” went for $197,000 at a Sotheby’s auction in New York beating pre-sale estimates ranging up to $100,000. Sotheby’s says most of the lines in this 1974 version were apparently unpublished and unrecorded. The document had been in the collection of Springsteen’s former manager, Mike Appel and was written in Long Branch, New jersey in blue ink, on an 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet of ruled notepaper. The buyer’s identity wasn’t revealed.
