He is an ambitious leader who reinvigorated Ryerson’s downtown campus.  Sheldon Levy has announced he will be stepping down as the President of Ryerson when his second term ends in 2015.  Levy joined the university in 2005 and will be 65 when he turns over the helm to a new president.  The personable, high profile academic leader helped beautify Ryerson’s campus, made it more walkable and student friendly, and worked to give it a more prominent presence on Yonge Street.  During Levy’s time as Ryerson President, the university built at new athletic centre at the historic Maple Leaf Gardens.  Levy says, “for a kid who grew up in Toronto, you can’t help but think the Gardens was a special moment.  For sure, that I’ll remember forever.”  As for his post-65 years, Levy says he’d like to do advocacy work on behalf of young people.
