A Toronto police officer has died of his injuries after a two-vehicle accident on the weekend.

Constable John Zivcic passed away this afternoon surrounded by his family.

Zivcic was responding to a call when his car collided with another vehicle in the city’s west end – near Bloor and Highway 427  late on Saturday afternoon.

Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly says the officer –  a seven-year veteran – underwent  several operations after suffering life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Sloly says the driver of the other vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
