It’s a testament to the power of prayer.

A  small book of psalms has become the world’s most expensive printed book – at $14.2 million. 

It was published in 1640 in  Cambridge, Massachusetts  by the Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. 

The book was designed to be a faithful translation into English of the original Hebrew psalms. 

Sotheby’s auction house says the ” Bay Psalm Book”  has been purchased  by American  financier and philanthropist David Rubenstein, who will loan it to libraries across the U-S.

The last time a copy of the book came up for auction in 1947, it sold for a record  price of $151,000, surpassing  prices for the Gutenberg Bible, Shakespeare’s First Folio and Audubon’s Birds of America.

The auction record for any book goes to the Leonardo da Vinci “Codex Hammer,” a personal notebook of scientific writings and diagrams. It sold for $30.8 million at Christie’s auction house in 1994.
