Sears Canada has confirmed that it is laying off nearly 800 people across its operations. The layoffs are said to be part of a multi-year plan to reduce operating costs. Last month it was announced that Sears Canada would close five of its department stores, including its flagship location at Toronto’s Eaton Centre next year. The company’s head offices are located above the store, and will remain there for the foreseeable future. Sears is also closing stores at Sherway Gardens and London-Masonville Place in London, Ontario by February the Markville Shopping Centre in Markham and Richmond Centre in Richmond, B.C. by February 2015.
