The first legal shots have been fired in a London court battle over the burial of King Richard III.

Since Richard’s skeleton was discovered last year under a parking lot in the English city of Leicester, a dispute has beeen simmering over where the royal  remains should be reburied.

Distant relatives of the monarch are challenging plans to place the bones at Leicester Cathedral – because they say that  Richard wanted to be buried in York.

Three High Court judges have adjourned the proceedings -to allow Leicester city council to play a role in the case.

Richard was killed in the Battle of Bosworth near Leicester in 1485 -ending the Wars of the Roses.

The king was quickly buried without a coffin.
