Toronto’s ombudsman is preparing to release details of a special investigation this morning at 10 o’clock.  It has not been confirmed if Fiona Crean’s probe has anything to do with the scandal surrounding embattled Mayor Rob Ford. The city ombudsman is an impartial investigator who looks into public complaints regarding city government.

Rob Ford did not speak to reporters yesterday afternoon when he arrived at Toronto City Hall.  Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly, who’s assumed most of Ford’s powers, says the Mayor hasn’t spoken with him either, but he doesn’t think Rob Ford feels betrayed by him.  “The Mayor and I talked candidly about all the options that were before him and I think that I and a lot of other people believe in the end that this was more of an intervention by members of council on his behalf,” Kelly explained.  Following the council vote which stripped Ford of most of his mayoral powers, 11 of his staff, including three of the most senior members, opted to move over to Norm Kelly’s expanded office.

Mayor Rob Ford’s name is mentioned by alleged gang members whose phones were wiretapped during the Project Traveller gang investigation.  A newly-released portion of a court document was released yesterday by Justice Ian Nordheimer.  It reveals that Ford’s voice was never captured in the wiretapped conversations, but his name pops up in the intercepted chats of gang members.  The new information also suggests police discovered that Ford’s occasional driver and friend, Alexander Lisi, was involved in trafficking marijuana.
