We’ve known for sometime that blueberries are good for you, but it seems a daily bowl of blueberries could add years to your life and protect against obesity, heart disease and diabetes. U.S. researchers fed specially bred obese lab rats a diet of blueberries, the equivalent of two cups a day for a human. The scientists found this improved the relaxing and constricting in the blood vessels, which had a significant impact on blood flow and blood pressure. The study’s co-author says its best to eat the berries raw. Heating the fruit affects the levels of the substance that gives them their “superfood” credentials.
