Senator Pamela Wallin is expected to address the Senate today as the upper chamber considers a motion to suspend her and two colleagues without pay.

Yesterday, Mike Duffy insisted he was the victim of a “monstrous conspiracy” orchestrated by the Prime Minister’s Office to appease voters.  “This motion is something one might expect to see in Iraq, Iran or in Vladimir Putin’s Russia,” Duffy explained to his fellow senators, “but not in democratic Canada.  It is not I repeat, it is not, fundamental justice.”

Duffy says he was in a room with Prime Minister Harper and his then-chief of staff Nigel Wright in February to discuss his questionable living expenses which Duffy insists were allowable.  But Duffy claims the Prime Minister said the perception of guilt was all that mattered and ordered he pay back the $90,000.  When Duffy complained he could not afford to do so, he says Wright offered to write the cheque.

Patrick Brazeau also addressed the Senate.  He said he too has never been given due process to address his improperly claimed expenses.
