Today’s throne speech will include a very special announcement: the Government of Canada plans to give honourary citizenship to Malala Yousafzai.
The 16 year old Pakistani teen was already an outspoken advocate for girls education – when she was critically injured on October 9th, 2012 when a Taliban gunman shot her while she was riding home on a school bus.
Malala will become just the sixth person to be given honorary Canadian citizenship.
The others are :
Nelson Mandela
The Dalai Lama
Aung San Suu Kyi
The Aga Khan
and Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg.
