Toronto District School Board trustees have named Donna Quan as Education Director. She’s been interim director since Chris Spence resigned amid a plagiarism scandal. After an hour and a half closed door meeting last night, TDSB chair Chris Bolton made the announcement. “Donna is thorough, she’s creative, she’s thoughtful,” he said of Quan. Alluding to Spence, Bolton explained, “we were looking for different characteristics this time. Now what we need is a person who can bring the parts together.”
Donna Quan took over as interim director of the TDSB in January. She dealt with the Chris Spence crisis, which happened to come amid a province-wide teacher unrest, a spending scandal with the board’s skilled trades union and a special assistance team sent in by the government. Quan moved up the ranks after joining the board in 1985 as an elementary teacher.
