Nearly 100 years after theyfought in World War I, a group of Canadian Jewish war heroes has been honoured. A monument was dedicated yesterday atMount Sinai Memorial Parkin North York to the 202 men who gave their lives for Canada. Organizer Murray Jacobs says, “it took seven years to put everything together, but we were blessed also that the government has helped us for the money to finish putting up these two stones.”

Among the citizens and dignitaries who attended the ceremony, Canada’s Minister of Veterans Affairs Julian Fantino who acknowledged, “Canada and the Jewish community in this particular circumstance have done a very honourable thing to pay tribute to these 202 fine men who perished in the first World War.”

The men were part of the group known as the Wingate Vets.
